Happy Birthday Eytan!
Good evening - started out with some skateboarding with Drew. Damn we suck - but we sure are improving.
Chilled out with Joe Hundley tonight, wishing him a bon voyage on his trip to Toronto and other overseas destinations including a year of study in India.
Of course, at the same restaurant (AmCaf) as I'm leaving I spot Eytan and Gil. I chill with them and drink more beer only to find out it was Eytan's birthday. Oh yeah, and he has a mohawk! Lightshow joined us. Gil went home to get ready for job interviews, and the rest of us headed to Eytan's for refreshments and some Knox Gelatin. We heated up some water in the microwave, poured in a few packets of Knox, mixed it up until it got nice and snot-like. Lightshow and I spiked Eytan's Mohawk into Plato's PUNK Form. It was a thing of beauty. So yeah, then we enjoyed some free rum we found under the sink, some more refreshments, and then 9 holes of golf.
....And, I even scammed David into picking up a gallon of milk on his way home. What a champ.
G'night...[fall][faceplant][snore]

Field Day Festival
I'm going to Field Day with a bunch of friends, and we're trying to get ourselves a group camp. I think we have a pretty cool idea for our camp. Let me know what you think...

Description and Camper Participation:
We want to serve as an information and goods exchange nexus for campers at Field Day. Using 3 laptops and
our personell we will scour the campsites Friday night and all day Saturday collecting information from people on
what they have to share. People may have extra food, water, similar interests, a flashlight, babywipes, special
party games, art, morning stretching, twister, juggling, a massage circle, camp activities, or any number of
goods, services, information, and interests they want to share, give, exchange, or borrow. We want to serve as a
meeting place for this network, where people can come to our group camp and search our database for any number of
things that might interest them. Festival goers will also be able to browse listings we will have written on chart
paper stands surrounding our campsite. We want to increase the interactivity among campers and add to the sense
of community created at the Field Day Festival.
We are currently in the process of devising a system by which we collect information from as many campers
as possible, assign an 'address' to that camp site, and then compile that information in our database at our site.
When campers come to the Bazaar in search of an exchange, barter, some fun, similar minds, or a little help we can
search our information for compatible matches. We will then be able to give the 'address' to the camper so that
they can seek out their match. If the Field Day staff could actually provide us with a short description of the
camp layout that would help in our planning.
We believe in the power on interconnectivity and the value of networking. Our team of campers will go out
Friday night and Saturday visiting other camps and collecting information. We actually get off on this - just
think of all the new and interesting people we'll get to meet!
Visual Description:
We hope that our campsite itself will serve as a meetingplace for all individuals. We plan to make
ourselves highly visible but using a tall flagpole with a distinct flag (two arrows pointing in opposite
directions, one above the other). We will give every campsite we visit a card with the symbol of our flag on it so
that they can find our camp later if they would like to seek information for themselves. We will need room to
stake down the flagpole from 4 sides. Also, we will have numerous lists of available information written on chart
paper stands and taped to our van. 4 of us are New York City Public School Teachers, so we're at home with the
markers and the large chartpaper:). This way people walking by may want to stop and see if anything interests them
and possibly add something themselves. The Mission Statement of our camp will be posted front and center.
Hopefully, passers by may be more likely to think of something to share in order to meet new people and have
others visit their camp as well.
4.
Logistical Description
We need enough room for the tents of 12-15 people, the flagpole and it's stakes, and a series of chart
paper stands around the border of our site. Also, we will have 2 cars plus a 15 passenger van (tentative).
Are there any structures (beyond personal camping tents and vehicles):
YES
One flagpole and a series of chart paper stands.
Request for Power
We will need a small power source, or at least the ability to share a power source of a nearby camp with
an extension cord. We just need power to operate 3 laptops. We can charge these with an adapter from a car
lighter, but we would much rather not have to run the car all day long. We don't need many amps, so an extension
from another camp's power would suffice.
Will your Group Camp include amplified sound?
NO
5.
Anything else we should know?
Our mission is strongly connected with the vibe of Field Day. We will definitely add to the sense of community and
sharing at the festival.
